Four units comprise the new School of Social Transformation. Our school brings together four distinct interdisciplinary fields of inquiry with unique identities, histories, constituencies, affiliations, intellectual frameworks and topics of inquiry.

African and African American Studies
We investigate the riveting complexities of Africa, its migratory diaspora and the robust lives of African peoples that have emerged from such dislocations. Trained in a variety of disciplines, our faculty examines a wide array of critical issues of African descended peoples across the stages of life at various times and places in history.

Asian Pacific American Studies
We gather and develop research, scholarship and archival information on the long history and rich contemporary experiences, cultures and communities of Asian Pacific Americans in the Southwest. This is the second-fastest growing ethnic group in the United Sates, yet lack of research about these communities is a concern. We seek to produce research that will inform policymakers, educators and our society at large about these communities.

Justice and Social Inquiry
We are an innovative interdisciplinary unit that places social justice at the center of our scholarship and teaching. For more than 25 years, we have been the intellectual hub for the study of justice at ASU and beyond by producing cross-disciplinary knowledge and educating generations of social change agents and justice studies scholars.

Women and Gender Studies
Our program is one of the largest, most vibrant women and gender studies programs in the country, teaching more than 3,000 students each year on topics which include: gender, health, sexuality, science and technology, work, globalization, ecology, social policy, violence prevention, media, film, performance and the arts.
